Graphite & Charcoal

Like many others Britain started as a sketch artist, using charcoal and graphite. Charcoal is commonly used to sketch roughs because it is easily brushed away and erased. It can also be used to create great value work if a fixative is used. Graphite has a scale of hardness. Soft lead is used more for shading and hard lead for more prominent lines. If used together, like for 'Flight Home' a measure of realism can be achieved.
